Follow-Up Activities

RNRF presented a Congressional Forum on Federal Natural Resources Agency Personnel Trends, Budget Stringencies, and Threatened Roles, May 12, 2004, in the hearing room of the U.S. House of Representatives Science Committee.

A Clearinghouse of Reactions and Activities has been established. Informational items from RNRF member organizations and other professional, scientific, and educational organizations are highlighted. Organizations and individuals are invited to utilize these items to support a vigorous role for the federal government in natural resources stewardship, science and research, and to raise public and policymaker awareness of critical issues facing the nation's natural resources.

Pictured below (l-r): Robert Robinson (General Accounting Office) describes emerging trends in the federal workforce; John Gordon (Yale Univ.-emeritus and Interforest LLC) describes the evolving role of government in the management and conservation of natural resources; Max Stier (Partnership for Public Service) identifies the causes of workforce trends; and Shere Abbott (AAAS) traces the evolution of conservation sciences and their integration into federal programs.

Pictured below (l-r): John Kusano (USDA Forest Service), Robert Ridky (US Geological Survey) and Marlene Kaplan (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) describe how each of their agencies is responding to emerging demographic trends. Thomas Casadevall (USGS) describes the skills for which agencies are looking.
